Confederate Monument Writing Assignment

The past several weeks has seen the escalation in tension between various different groups/people in the United States concerning the retention of various different monuments that were erected to commemorate either the Confederacy or participants in the Confederate army during the Civil War.  

Some groups strongly support the removal of all such monuments from public display while other groups believe that these monuments provide historical symbols.

What do you think?  It would probably be a good idea to do a little research (aka “googling”) to help give you some information on the subject.

Your task will be to type a 1 page (10 or 12 pt.) argumentative (persuasive) paper supporting your position on the issue.  Remember to have an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement at the end of the paragraph, 2-3 paragraphs to support your position and then a concluding paragraph.  (Do NOT write in the first person) You will also need to list at least 2 sources of information that you read in forming your opinion.  You may also quote support from your sources.
